Upgrading to MOSS 2007 from version WSS 3.0 12.0.0.6421
Hi, I had WSS 3.0 SP2 installed. Then I decided to upgrade it to MOSS. My farm has only one server which is running all the services. so I installed 1- MOSS with service pack 1 2- MOSS Service Pack 2 3- Arabic Language pack 4- Service pack 2 for Language Pack (English) 5- Service pack 2 for Language Pack (Arabic) Now the current version is 12.0.0.6421. I have MOSS site backup that uses version 12.0.0.6520, so I installed this update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974988 to upgrade for 12.0.0.6520 (CU Oct 2009). When the update was complete, I ran SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard as instructed, which said it's performing the upgrade, I proceeded with the wizard and it completed without any problems. Yet, when I check the version it's still 12.0.0.6421, and I still can't restore the backup due to the version mismatch. So I am kind of stuck with that version and can't upgrade. Please advise. Thanks a lot in advance.

Can you describe your upgrade process more completely? For example when you say that you had WSS SP2 and you installed MOSS -- did you do that on another server? There's no need to match the versions exactly with v3 or MOSS. This was definitely the case in v2 but with v3 as long as you are restoring to a version that is equal or later than your current version you shuld be fine. You might want to try detatching and reattaching the content DB to MOSS by doing stsadm -o deletecontentdb and then stsadm -o addcontentdb from STSADM. That might do the trick.John SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting Blog: http://www.rossonmoss.com Twitter: JohnRossJr MOSS Explained: An Information Workers Deep Dive into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Hi and thanks for your reply. Everything is on one server (there is no other server involved at all). 1- I had WSS 3.0 with SP2 2- I installed MOSS with SP1 on top of WSS. The configuration wizard ran at the end and used my original config database. my old sites were untouched. 3- I installed MOSS SP2 (config wizard also ran at the end, proceeded normally) 4- I installed MOSS Arabic language Pack ( config wizard also ran at the end, proceeded normally) 5- I installed SP2 for MOSS Arabic Language Pack ( config wizard also ran at the end, proceeded normally) 6- I installed this update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974988 ( config wizard also ran at the end, it asked me to install the update on other servers before pressing OK to continue the upgrade, since there was no other servers, I just clicked OK). The Wizard completed without a problem Now MOSS is working fine, site are running, language pack working. However the version is still 12.0.0.6421. I tried detaching the config database and reconfiguring everything from scratch, same result.

After you installed MOSS w/ SP1 did you then reinstall both WSS SP2 and MOSS SP2? Then run configuation wizard after?John SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting Blog: http://www.rossonmoss.com Twitter: JohnRossJr MOSS Explained: An Information Workers Deep Dive into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
