Upgrading custom lists
Hi, I have a MOSS site running in a server farm environment and currently I am working on upgraing this to SharePoint 2010. For this I executed the preupgradecheck command, and received the report. I found that there was a list of custom list views which needed to be upgraded manually. I have tried searching for some command by which I can upgrade the lists but could not find any? I have a long list of such custom lists that require manual upgrade. Does this mean that I will have to re create this entire content in the SharePoint 2010 site or is there some mechanism that is much simpler. Please help.. Thanks Sakshi

Hi Sakshi, sounds like the content is fine, but you will need to recreate the views? Why dont you paste an example of the report so we can all view what you are seeing..Cheers,-IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Ivan,Thanks for your reply. I am pasting a part of the report I received. It is huge and this is just a part of the fiew custom lists that it is asking for manual upgrade.. " Information Only : Customized list views that will not be upgraded. A list view using custom Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML), a list view not associated with a Feature, or a list view associated with a custom Feature, will not be upgraded to the new XSLT-based list view. A list view that is not upgraded will still render properly in Windows SharePoint Services 4.0, but it will not inherit any benefits of the new XSLT-based list view, such as SharePoint Designer customization support, conditional formatting and improved developer experience with XSLT standard-based language support. The following list views will not be upgraded: 025e4cde-3377-4724-ac75-06e88a036714-----ClosedCops/Private Wealth Management Closed Community/Lists/ArkmedesDiscForumLinks/Expert1.aspx(Expert) f64b385e-3758-4f3e-9df3-72e3e2dc0cfb-----ClosedCops/Thought Leadership Program/CoP Newsletter/Forms/Combine.aspx(Merge Documents).......It is highly recommended that you manually upgrade all custom list views to the new XSLT-based list views. The new XSLT-based list view is going to be the default view used in Windows SharePoint Services 4.0, replacing the existing list view in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. For more information about this rule, see KB article 956450 in the rule article list at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=120257. " Do let me know in case you find some answer to this.ThanksSakshi

Hi, From the alert message, I think you don’t need to recreate the lists (data of the lists). But you have to recreate your custom list views after my research. Let me know if you have further questions! Hope it is helpful!

Hi Seven Ma, Thanks for your reply. I understand that I will have to recreate all my custom list views. The problem is that I have a large number of custom lists and re-creating each would be a painful process. I have not found anything simpler than creating a script that could actually do this. Do let me know if there is something simpler which I may not be knowing. I will surely post if I get some findings on this. Thnaks Sakshi
