Upgrading WSS 3 to MOSS 2007
Hello All, Iam currently in the middle of a migration/upgrade and have a question. We are moving from an environment with multiple wss 3.0 web applications and consolidating them in moss 2007 as site collections under one web application. That is, we are taking web application 1, web application 2 and making them http://mosswebapplication/sites/web application 1 and 2. We are doing this to ease administration. The site collections also have separate content databases (that is, one content database for each site collection). Does anyone have any suggestions about how we can go about executing this? We have confirmed that stsadm backup and restore would work but some of the applications have over 50Gb in data. I have been informed that the stsadm restore is only supported for up to 15gb. We also have to preserve the versions, security information and all during the upgrade. Thanks,

The stsadm backup will not help you in this scenario. Backup/restore works just for Site Collection level. Moreover Microsoft does not suggest to use DB more 50Gb per Site collection. Using multiple DBs in one Site collection is a headache. I suggest you to create several Apps on MOSS for migration. You can use third-party tools to copy content. Oleg
