I am aware of tools that enable me to transfer the reports etc but I am not aware of a best approach to upgrade these to the SQL 2012 schema? Any suggestions? Regards

I did the following and it works just fine. Open a new project in SSDT Add existing item from old report (.rdl) --will be upgraded automatically.
