Upgrade from WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007?
My question is two fold: 1) Should I do a database detach, in place, or hybrid upgrade for a) wss3 and b0 MOSS 2007 2) Since there doesn't appear to be a 2007 forum anymore, how do I upgrade a wss3.0 instancoe to MOSS 2007. Is it as simple as changing a license key?

There is a huge 2007 forum. It never moved nor changed. This is the 2010 forum, so I'll move it. We can't tell you which you should do. That depends on your requirements and your situation. You run the upgrade - it's not a license. It's a completely separate install. SharePoint Architect || Microsoft MVP || My Blog Planet Technologies || SharePoint Task Force

Hi, 1. Deciding for upgrade approach is based on specific scenario. Basically an in-place upgrade takes place on the same hardware as your previous version installation. And a database attach upgrade enables you to move to new hardware or a new farm. There is a well described article here: http://technet.microsoft.com/hi-in/library/cc288775(en-us).aspx 2. We do have a 2007 forum at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/sharepoint Hope this gives you a start...Vighnesh Bendre http://markviky.blogspot.com

I would follow the below steps to do the upgrade: Take a backup of the existing WSS farm (Database backup, File system backup) Install MOSS 2007 on top of WSS (using either Standard or Enterprise license key based on your requirement) on all the web and app servers Run the configuration wizard on the first server. Run the configuration wizard one by one on the other servers If the config wizard runs successfully, you are done. I dont think there is a need to detach your content databases unless you are moving to a different farm. In case something goes wrong, you have your database backup (taken at the first step) Thanks, Dip
