Upgrade SCE to Configuration Manager and Operations Manager
I recently installed SCE and just went over the 31 server limit. Were unique in that we have more servers than clients. It indicates inthe SCE migration guide (exert below) that you can migrate to SCOM and SCCM but I don't see any specifics anywhere on how to do it. I have SCE on a VM now. 1. Can I install both SCOM and SCCM on the existing SCE server or do they need to go on separate server(s) 2. Will I retain any work Ive done with SCE (groups, inventories, WSUS downloads, AD group, group policy) or will it all have to be done over? 3. Will all client machines have the old SCE agent or will they be updated to a new agent? Will the old agent be uninstalled? 4. What kind of cleanup will I need to do? (client machines, AD etc) 5. Is there a migration document out there that anyone is aware of? Thanks Outgrowing Essentials 2007: Migrating to Operations Manager 2007 and Configuration Manager 2007 If your environment and enterprise grow beyond Essentials2007 limits (a maximum of 30 servers and 500 client computers), you should migrate from Essentials2007 to Configuration Manager2007 and Operations Manager2007. How to proceed Operational and reporting data cannot be migrated. The following steps describe the general upgrade process. For more information about any of these steps, consult the documentation for each specific product. 1. Install Configuration Manager2007. 2. Install Operations Manager2007. 3. Export Management Packs from Essentials2007 4. Import the Management Packs into Operations Manager2007.

Hi Grant, 1. It's strongly recommended that you separate the role, install SCOM, SCCM on individual server. 2. If you use SCOM and SCCM to monitor and manage your clients, please un-install SCE and remove all SCE related objects in AD first. 3. No, it will not be updated to new agent, please uninstall them from SCE console first. 4. The following are the detail steps for SCE un-installation: 1). Delete all clients in SCE console. 2). Un-install SCE from Control Panel - Add/Remove Programes. 3). Remove SCE SCP: a. On the Domain Controller, open ADSI Edit (Start - Run - Adsiedit.msc). b. Right click on the Domain tree and select New - Query. c. In the New Query window, enter the following: Name: SCESCP Query Root of Search: <domain name> Query String: (&(objectCategory=serviceConnectionPoint)(cn=SCESCP)) d. Click on OK. e. Expand the Domain node in ADSI Edit and select the SCESCP Query node. f. A CN=SCESCP object should be listed in the right-hand pane, with a distinguished name ofCN=SCESCP,CN=<ComputerName>,CN=<OUName>,DC=<DomainName>,DC=com. This tells us which computer account has the SCE SCP. g. Delete the SCESCP object from the SCESCP Query node in ADSI Edit. 4). Delete the key in registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\System Center Essentials HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager
