Thank you for looking...I have a question that I am guessing someone will be able to answer. 

If there is a published advanced workflow in SPD 2013 that uses a loop and pause for duration...and there is a list item that is currently in mid workflow and paused...and I need to make an update to the design of the workflow...

What will happen to the workflow that is running if I make the changes and re-publish the workflow?

Does the workflow remain paused and keep going, does it fail, will it use old logic or new logic?  I will do some testing but any insight that can be offered or suggestions on how to manage the conundrum would be very welcome.

As I understand, you want to know what will happen if you update 2013 workflow while running workflow is paused in SharePoint 2013.

It will not have effect on the running workflow, the running workflow continue running if you update and republish the running workflow even if the running workflow is paused.

If you start a new workflow on the item, it will apply the workflow you have updated.
