Update 1 error
I tried to install 'Forefront Identity Manager 2010 Service and Portal Update (KB978864)' but I'm having problems. I have 2 FIM Service/Portal servers (one active, one standby) connected to the same SQL database. I installed the update on the first server (ServerA) without any issues. The problem is on the second server (ServerB). When I try to install the update on ServerB, it fails. Here's some of the error I get in the logs: - Database is not compatible with this binary. - The database version is incorrect, expected version is 6 It looks like because the SQL database is already updated from the first update I completed on ServerA, the setup cannot be ran a second time on that database and blocks the entire update process on my ServerB. Any ideas on how I should procede to update my 2 servers?

jolefebvre, What you are assuming is correct. I had the same issue. My workaround was the following sequence (I think): Install server A with FIM RTM install server B with FIM RTM Install server A with FIM RTM Update 1 Install server B with FIM RTM update 1 Because this didn't work for sure: Install server A with FIM RTM Install server A with FIM RTM Update 1 install server B with FIM RTM Install server B with FIM RTM update 1 That would also mean I couldn't add this procedure to re-install or add a new node. If I'm not mistaken, back when i was setting it up people advised me to install the second server with temporary databases, update it to FIM 2010 RTM + update 1 and then run the FIM setup again and reconfigure it to the existing DB's. Then delete the temporary databases. Afterall, the content of the DB only has to be updated once. it's shared. Good luck.http://setspn.blogspot.com

I finally got it to work. I had more than one problem in fact. Thomas' solution helped me (temp database trick) but I also needed to re-enable the http://localhost binding that I had removed to only support https. Thanks!
