Unexpected error connecting to report server, but only from host header site
This should be a simple fix. Have SP 2007 set up on Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2. Reporting Services Integrated mode. Separate report server and front-end servers, using trusted authentication, not Kerberos. Notice that if I have a site set up with servername:port number, Reporting Services works. If I use a specific host header, I get an error message "Unexpected error connecting to report server" when I try to view a report. I can deploy reports from Visual Studio to the hostheader site with no problem, but cannot view deployed reports. Also notice that I get a refresh page when I try to look at report subscriptions, etc. The files are all in the 12 hive--again this all works if I use a servername:port number combination, but fails consistently when using a hostheader. BTW, I tried removing the site, creating a blank site with the hostheader, same result. SharePoint and Reporting Services logs are strangely silent. Using Kerberos authentication would be complicated. Could there be any other reasons for this? Thanks, David R

Hi David5, Actually, if you open a sharepoint site without port number, there is a default port number, that is 80. So here please have a check whether your sharepoint site’s port number is 80, if not, you could not open the site correctly. in addition if you still want to display the sharepoint site without port number, you should modify the sharepoint site’s port number to 80, please make sure there is only one site is running to avoid port conflict.
