Unble to access site when Configuring Alternate access Mapping
I have a SharePoint Site and I want to access it using different name. For that I am using Alternate Access Mapping but it will prompt me for username and password and then after three attempt it will give me the Unauthorize page. I want to access site using http://drop.shatepointtest.com, by default it is http://drop Step which I follow is: 1) On the SharePoint Server - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts and make entry in hosts file 2) Adding Host Header in IIS-WebSite 3) On SharePoint CA add entry in Alternate Accessing Mapping. But it will continously prompt me for username/password and then fail to opn the page. Please helpJayant Sharma

Hi Jayant, What if you use http://drop ? And in which zone you have added http://drop.shatepointtest.com ,? Try with extending SharePoint site using CA > Application mgmt > extend an existing web applicationRegards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

The Problem is little bit different. we have a test team at different location and they can access our sharepoint site by IP but not by name. My sharepoint test server is on different domain. so we need to manually make an entry in DNS server and I donot have access to DNS and if we use IP Address to open SharePoint Site, then custom workflow will not initialize. so for workaround I want to test the application by taking entry in Client Host file and then try to access the site by Name. when I follow this steps then SharePoint Site opens user authentication window and then unauthorise error. When I add an entry in Host file and then try to access normal aspx site then it works but not in case of sharepoint Sites.Jayant Sharma
