Unable to upgrarde or repair MOSS because an existing upgrade is in progress.
In the Control Panel - Windows Servcer 2003; I am unable to uninstall Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Trial – I get an error that the product installation has been corrupted. Run setup again from the CD, DVD, or other original installation source. In the setup folder, or from the DVD the OfficeServer.exe says - Setup is unable to proceed due to the following errors. Microsoft Office Server Trial Edition products may not be installed on a server with licensed Microsoft Office Server Products. Remove existing Microsoft Office Server Products and re-run set up. MOSS broke. Need to reinstall, but darn if I can remove MOSS, darn if I don't. Got in trouble trying to turn on a service:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc560965.aspx#bkmk4

I followed that post as close as I could. But to no avail. I’m still getting the ‘Unable to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies because an upgrade is already in progress.’ Found similar WSS3.0 uninstall link that: http://www.howtonetworking.com/msapps/wss14.htm 1) Unsuccessfully tried to detach the server from the farm. (Single box, Win03 Enterprise) C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop>psconfig -cmd configdb -disconnect Performing configuration task 1 of 3 Initializing SharePoint Products and Technologies upgrade... Failed to initialize SharePoint Products and Technologies upgrade. An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfig urationTaskException was thrown. Additional exception information: The initialize command is invalid or a failure has been encountered. Unable to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies because an upgrade is already in progress. Upgrade progress can be monitored using the Central Administration Web Application or by monitoring the upgrade log on server STARMAN. 2) Stopped Services: a. the Windows SharePoint Service Search b. WINDOWs SharePoint Services Administration c. Windows SharePoint Services Timer d. Windows SharePoint Service Tracing e. Windows SharePoint Services VSS Writer 3) Ran the Windows Install Clean Up program and zapped all office server programs! 4) Manually deleted the Software\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0 folder 5) And the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12 folder 6) Had a few left over files and downloaded: Process Explorer to attempt killing the processes. 7) Went back to the set up files for (WSS & MOSS) and was disappointed by seeing the same error: Unable to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies because an upgrade is already in progress. . . 8) If I had the server install disc, I would reformat now but I don’t. If I knew how to delete the registry settings that might help. I went to regedit but could not locate HKLM Delete the following registry hives: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0 Please advice. Thank-you.
