Unable to upgrade to Windows 10 (multiple ways)

Hi,

Using Windows Update I get to ~80% of "preparing to install" stage after which it stops with error 80070003.

Stopping the service, Deleting the Windows~$BT dir and starting the service did no good.

Using the official Microsoft Media Creation tool - no matter of chosen to "upgrade my PC now" or burning the upgrade image to a USB drive - still fails - It reaches the installation stage - and after 24% crashes with a small error message: "Windows 10 setup has failed - something happened".

I have been troubleshooting this for more than a day now. I am desperate at this point.

My current system is Win8.1.

Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Btw - to clarify - I tried setting my locale to US English - everywhere. Still did not resolve the issue.

Hi lliabi,

Apologize for the late reply.

So what is your current situation?

If we are still facing the same situation, then please check and see if the article below would help:

Help with upgrading to Windows 10

0x80070003 means there is some Windows Update files missing/corrputed, we should first fix the Windows Update errors.

Windows Update error "0x80070002" or "0x80070003"

As we tried to delete the softwareDistribution folder and the result is not so good, then please run the following command under CMD:

Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Then do the upgrade again.

If the process still fails, please consider to do a system reset, then upgrade.

Regards
