Unable to update the information in the Microsoft Office Document libraryname/documentname.xls
Hi, one of our users is facing this particular issue, he is able to upload excel files to other libraries/siteshe has Office 2007 installed, IE7, Windows XP,the documentis saved in 2003 version, he is able to upload same document on other libraries,but whenever he tries to upload to this particular library he gets the following exceptionServer Error in '/' Applicationdescription: an unhandled exception ocurred during the execution of the current web request. 1) The issue was with property promotion/demotion of this file while saving metadata during check-in process. 2) I saved this file as .XLSX in 2007 format and uploaded it; I successfully checked in the file. 3) Then I downloaded this copy on my local system; opened it and saved it in .XLS format. 4) This copy was then uploaded and successfully checked in to the library in question. (all the metadata properties were pre filled in advance from the earlier .XLSX file downloaded from SP site); hence any issues related to property promotion and demotion were removed.Thanks...Himani

FYI for anyone else having this problem. I found that I had the same problem, and that what was causing the property promotion issues was a property in the actual word document. "Company" was populated, and it was attempting to promote that meta data when uploading to a list with that field, but in the list that field was a selection, and not text. Check your documents (File -> Properties) for meta data and try clearing anything there. That's what fixed it for me.
