Unable to update SCCM to R3
Hi Dennis, It appears that the account which was used to run the console and accomplish the database move is deficient in rights/permissions on the remote SQL cluster. The following lists the requirements for the accounts used to install Configuration Manager. Note that it is required that this domain user account be a member of SYSADMINS and a member of Local Admins on the SQL server. Please review this data and ensure that the account is running the admin console meets requirements. Then run a site repair/reset. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632954.aspx About the Account Used To Install Configuration Manager: You must have a Windows account to log in and run Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Setup. Required rights and permissions: The account logged on when Configuration Manager 2007 is installed must be a domain user. If Configuration Manager is installed on a computer where the logged-on user account is a local account and not part of a domain, Setup might appear to succeed, but access to the Configuration Manager console fails and you will need to reinstall. This account must have administrative rights on the site server and be a member of Sysadmins on SQL Server. If you use a remote site database server, please ensure the site server machine account (Domainname\machinename$) is a domain admin on the remote SQL box. During Setup, the account is automatically added to the SMS Admins group. After a fresh installation, the account will be the only user account with rights to the Configuration Manager 2007 console. If you are upgrading from a previous version, other administrators retain their existing rights to the console but are not automatically granted new rights to new objects. I have a new installation of SCCM with SP2 and the prerequisite hotfix KB977384 installed. When I try to apply the R3 update it generates the following error. Product: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 -- Error 25009. Setup was unable to update the database. Verify that the site database server is on the network and that your account is a member of Sysadmins on the SQL Server. 0x80004005 I have tried this with both my account and the sccm service account with the same error. Both accounts are sysadmins and dbo on the database. What am I missing? Thanks Dennis Ervin

Hi, SQL Server services run with a domain user account or the LocalSystem ?? If it's a domain user, have you configured an SPN for SQL http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb735885.aspx ??Bechir Gharbi | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/bgharbi/

Are you also a local admin on the DB server? Have you reviewed the setup log file? It should exist in the temporary directory for the current user: http://scug.dk/blogs/configurationmanager/archive/2010/10/22/configuration-manager-r3-setup-log-file.aspx.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

I am a member of domain admins which is part of local adminsitrator group. Looked at the log file, but it is very long and don't really see anything in there yet that is helpful/Dennis Ervin
