Unable to save to Sharepoint Drafts folder using Dev instance of MOSS 2007.
Here is a bizarre scenario. We have training accounts using a dev environment. They are unable to save an Office 2007 Word document to their Sharepoint Drafts folder from MOSS 2007. We tested it on the Production instance and saved it to the same trainer client machine successfully. Is there a setting in MOSS 2007 that disallows saving to the local client's Sharepoint Drafts folder? Again, it works in our Prod environment but not the Dev environment.Thank you!

Hi, When you check out a file from some programs that are compatible with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you can work with the file on your hard disk, even when you are disconnected. The copy is stored in your server drafts folder, which is, by default, the SharePoint Drafts folder in your My Documents folder. Please make sure that you have not change the location of Drafts folder in your client programs (in Word 2007 you can find it by selecting the Office button>Word Options > Save >server drafts location) Hope it helps. Hi, that doesn't make sense because it works on one environment but not the other. We are able to save drafts when working in Production Sharepoint. We can't save drafts when working in Development environment. Thanks!

Hi,Does the file you are checking out on your dev environment have a longer url than the files in prod?I've seen instances where if the url to a document is greater than 255 characters (or therabouts), checking out the file to the drafts folder throws an error.Paul.

Thanks Paul, the URL's almost identical... the Dev URL is only 4 characters longer than the production one. http://odftestnet.odf.state.or.us/train/Shared%20Documents/about%20office%2007.docxAny other thoughts?

Hi Paul, We get the result: "This document could not be checked out to your local drafts folder. The document may have already been checked out, or the local drafts folder could not be written to."

Hi,I know that error is displayed by the SharePoint OpenDocuments ActiveX control, but trying to troubleshoot that may be a bit difficult.Have you tried adding the site url to the trusted sites zone in IE?Also, does the problem occur for all users, or just one?Paul.

That error is displayed when I try to check out a document file. It only happens on the Development environment. The site URL is added to the trusted sites zone in IE. This problem does occur for all users when using the Development environment. It is very strange. I really appreciate your help in this.thank you!Scott

I get the error just after attempting to check out a document. I get the prompt: "You are about to check out: Name: ... filename From: dev URL and a checkbox to use my local drafts folder" I hit OK and then I get the error listed above. I must add that it does check out the document.

Generally what happens is that if the SharePoint OpenDocuments Activex control cannot checkout the document to the local folder, then the javascript function will take back over to checkout the document to the server, which is what you are seeing.I just had a thought. The ActiveX control uses the sharepoint webservices, so perhaps your dev server has these web services disabled?A couple of things you might want to try:-1. Use fiddler2 to inspect the http traffic between the activex control and SharePoint. this may show some errors with the web services2. Try using outlook to connect to a list such as a task list or calendar. This functionality also uses the web services.Hope that helps.Paul.

Scott (sseversonODF),Did you ever find an answer to this problem? I have a similar issue and have ruled out Full Control on the users SharePoint Drafts folder and 255 character limit.Thank you,Bill
