Unable to resolve assembly: Microsoft.ResourceManagement.XmlSe rializers
I am attempting to register a user for self service password reset. It fails with "An error was encountered. Please call helpdesk or system administrator for further assistance." I've done a trace and am seeing a warning which I believe is related: "Unable to resolve assembly: Microsoft.ResourceManagement.XmlSerializers, Version=4.0.2560.0, Culture=Neutral, PublciKeyToken=31b3856ad364e35" Anyone seen this before?Matt

That is a warning and is unrelated to password reset. You can ignore that. On the server, have you found any ERROR (red)?

you mentioned you are trying to register for SSPR and you hit the issue. When exactly? Let me guess: after you click NEXT in the welcome dialog?

I did not see any red. I don't have access to the system right now, but I believe I was receiving the error after the welcome dialog. I can't find any logging for this error. How does one go about debugging it?

on the FIMService machine, go to C:\Program Files\...\2010\Service\Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Service.exe.config scroll to bottom and search for externalHostName. I guess you specified localhost. It should be the DNS resolvable hostname. The error arises when the client tries to localhost to authenticate and obviously that would fail. If that's the case, there would be an error on the client side log. Let me know if that's the case for you and if that fixes the problem or not.

Thanks Anthony, thats fixed it. So you said that you guessed I specified localhost. I don't recall entering localhost anywhere in the configuration. Where does that attribute get is value during the installation? Is it a default value?

During installation of FIMService, the UI asks about what's the hostname the client should talk to the server and default value is localhost. It is a known issue that the default value is localhost.

FYI - I get this same error in the FIMService trace log, but I can repro by just starting the FIMService service.CraigMartin Oxford Computer Group http://identitytrench.com
