We have an instance of WSS 3.0 running on 2003R2 x64 . The site recently become unstable, we cannot access the Operation or Application Management tabs in Central Admin. So, we've decided to attempt a removal ofthis installation of WSS 3.0 from theserver. We cannot uninstall WSS. The Add/Remove GUI - 'remove' fails. How canwe remove WSS 3.0? Any guidance would be appreciated.

I ran into a a very similar problem, when our test deployment lost connection to the config database (SSEE). I couldn't find a solution to the problem even after extensive searching of the net and microsoft documentation; we had to rebuild the server. Not a helpful response, I realize, except to confirm that this problem is real and has been encountered by others.

I had a problem removing WSS 3.0 as well, I ended up having to shutdown all the sharepoint services then remove sharepoint 2.0 first then 3.0 uninstalled without any problems. Brent

Ran into similar issue, than came across MS Article 920277. The sticking point was SQL 2005 (standalone DB) was the item preventing uninstall. Run the command and then uninstall WSS 3.0
