Unable to open in explorer after setting alternate mapping

Hi all,

I'm using a SharePoint 2013 instance in Azure for developing purposes.

I was using links to the style libraries to edit css, js like \\winsrv2012\wwwdavroot\style library\css\myscc.css, it was working fine. I had to configure alternate mapping to be able to access SP from the web and since that change, I can't access the files with the windows explorer anymore.

I'm going to the style library with the SharePoint "Site content" menu and then click on "Open in explorer" button, I get a credential prompt, and even with the right credentials, it's not going through.

I can however edit the files with SharePoint Designer but it not my editor of choice.

If I reverse my settings, deleting the alternate mappings, it's working again, so I know it's not a problem with the web client or wrong credentials.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks

Hi Michel,

How do you configure the aam for your SharePoint site?

Which url do you use to open in explorer view, winsrv2012 or aam url?

Does it always popup the credential window with AAM url?

I tested in my local SharePoint environment, and I could view the files in "style library" in Explorer view mode for both SharePoint server name and site aam url.

Please check and make sure the settings are correct for SharePoint AAM from CA, SharePoint site bindings from IIS Manager, and A record from DNS server.

Hi Daniel,

The AAM is as following:

Internal: http://winsrv2012, Zone: default, Public: http://winsrv2012

Internal: http://hqwinsrv2012.cloudapp.net, Zone: Internet, Public: http://hqwinsrv2012.cloudapp.net

I get the credential popup only when using "Open in explorer".

I've tried opening http://winsrv2012/davwwwroot, it doesn't found the link.

If I try http://hqwinsrv2012.cloudapp.net/davwwwroot I get the message "The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not being authenticated".

I've checked the permissions in SP (I'm using the admin account).

I've checked the IIS and I have all the authenticated methods enabled except "Digest"

I've already put hqwinsrv2012.cloudapp.net in the binding of the site.

Since I'm in Azure, I don't have access to the DNS, but I'm working directly on the server so I added an entry in the host file pointing to hqwinsrv2012.cloudapp.net with the IP of the server (WINSRV2012)

Before the aam, I was able to use http://winsrv2012/davwwwroot with no permissions problems.

Thanks for your help

Hi Michel,

It seems your AAM configuration is correct as same as mine (on local machine), but it also should work.

Did the credential keep popping up when you access \\test.cloudapp.net\DavWWWRoot\Style Library?

Please add the fqdn url http://winsrv2012.cloudapp.net in your IE Local intranet zone (or trusted sites zone), then access \\test.cloudapp.net\DavWWWRoot\ and check results again.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes it keeps popping the credentials for all the tests.

Finally my IT team just completed my on premise SharePoint 2013 environment and I've copied my files from Azure to local and here everything is working fine, I can open anything in explorer without issues.

Thanks for your help.
