Unable to open hyperlinks to word documents in office 2007/2010
Hi,
We are current having word documents on Sharepoint 2007 and they are accessed through sharepoint shortcuts(.aspx) embedded as hyperlinks in a word document. With Office 2003 (XP, IE 7), we are able to open the sharepoint document when we click on the .aspx
hyperlink. But the same hyperlink fails to open in Office 2007 / 2010.
In Office 2010, a blank document opens. When we navigate to the file location, the sharepoint shortcut page opens : it fails to redirect it further to the document. However, before opening the document, it gives the MS Office warning message - 'Opening
https:\\sharepoint.......doc. Some files contain virus or be harmful to.... Would you like to open this file?'
Is there any specific setting that was missed out? Would appreciate any input on the above issue.
Thanks

Hi,
I am facing a similar issue did you find any solution for the same? The issue is very similar to yours. I am trying to open a link to a document item(URL) which points to a document in some doc library. If i open the document directly it opens
but if i give a link to the "Link to a document item" it doesnt open in Office 2007/2010 but the same thing opens in Office 2003.
Thanks,
Kunal

1) Please verify whether the Web Application is enabled with Basic Authentication
2) If Basic Authentication is enabled follow this KB solution required for Office 2010
a. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928692
The following hive is required for Office 2010 Client environment connecting to Basic Authentication Site.
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet
Add a new DWORD Value named BasicAuthLevel
Right-click BasicAuthLevel , and then click Modify
In the Value Data box, set the appropriate value for the BasicAuthLevel registry key:
0 means basic authentication not allowed
1 means basic authentication is allowed on only SSL connections
2 means that basic authentication is always allowedFred Ellis - MSFT
