Unable to log on to SharePoint from the server
Hi!A customer has a strange problem... When logging on to the WFE server it is not possble to log on to their SharePoint sites (WSS 3.0). A prompt with the user credentials for a specific user shows, but when we try to change the credentials to someone else, we get "You are not authorized to view this page". If we instead try to log on to the site from outside the server, everything works fine. To complicate it further, there are no problems to log on to Central Admin from the server. Does anyone have a clue what could cause this and how we can solvce it?Thanks in advance!Jenny

Hi,This could be caused by the Loopback Check setting. I have seen it pop up in Windows 2008 installations where you can not browse the site from the server itself but could access the site remotely. Your Central Admin may be hosted on the App server and would then work perfectly. You can check this article on how to change this behaviour and solve your issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861Do test it in your testenvironment before deploying to production,Regards,

Thank you all guys! Both I and the customer have tried the solution above before with no result. When I tested again now, it suddenly worked. I do not know why it didn't before, but finally the problem is solved! It was the second method that did the trick.Jenny

Hi. I had a similar issue. When creating a site collection through Central Admin everyhting worked fine. However, when creating a hosted-named site collection through stsadm, I couldn't log in to the new site. Changing the loop back setting in registry fixed my issue.
