Unable to locate client software error, Oracle MA
I'm moving my ILM 2007 FP1 implementation into my new FIM development environment. When I try to import the Oracle MA in my configuration, I get an error: "Unable to locate required client software." I have the 64-bit Oracle 'Instant client' installed and I can connect to the database via the ODBC Management Console. So how does FIM 'locate' an Oracle client? Hi Ed, What worked for me was to install the 64-bit administrator version of the Oracle client tools & grant permission on the Oracle installation folder to FIMSyncService. I recall there is MS FIM documentation on this. G'luck. AB

I found another thread that mentioned that, tried it and it didn't fix it. I had done all of that before I posted my question. My install is in "c:\program files\oracle"; that is in my PATH; I've also set ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN and ORACLE_BASE. I'm at a loss. I've scoured the technical library (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc626295.aspx) and I can find no documentation.Ed Bell - Specialist, Network Services, Convergys

I downloaded and installed that version of the client (which, incidentally, says it is not supported on Windows 2008 R2...), but it has not resolved the problem. Once again, I can connect to the database via the ODBC Manager, but FIM just says "Unable to locate required client software. For more information about specific requirements for synchronizing with this connnected data source, see the Synchronization Service help." And the help doesn't tell me anything. Can't someone from Microsoft shed some light on this? It has to be a simple fix. Ed Bell - Specialist, Network Services, Convergys

Hi Ed, Just to be clear, have you ensured that your FIMSyncService account has been given Full Control permissions on the "c:\program files\oracle" folder and all its sub-folders? You may want to log into the server as the FIMSyncService account (you may have to change your security policies to do this) and try opening a SQL*Plus session. That may give you some additional insight. Perhaps the account can not see your PATH declarations. Cheers, MarcMarc Mac Donell, ILM MVP, VP Identity and Access Solutions, Avaleris Inc.

Finally, I got this resolved. Lesson learned: when installing an Oracle client, just install the whole d* thing! Also, by the way, the 11.x.x.x clients would NOT work. I ended up using the 10.2.04 version recommended above. Thanks, all.Ed Bell - Specialist, Network Services, Convergys

We have deployed FIM 2010 on Windows 2008 R2. Our attempts as well of getting oracle v11 to work with FIM2010 have not been successful. Oracle 11 client has a Windows 2008 R2 version. The Oracle 10g client will not install on Windows 2008 R2. How has anyone resolved this issue?

I installed the latest version I could find last week - 11.2.0.1 x64 version - on my Windows 2008 R2 server with all FIM services on the same box; installed to a short-name path (not C:\Program Files\Oracle; I chose D:\App\Oracle as Oracle has always had problems in the past with non 8.3 folder structures); added permissions to the Oracle folder as recommended above. This worked with no problems so far.

I have to rebuild my DEV environment and I'm running into this error. Since I didn't build the original environment, I don't have the software the Oracle MA is looking for in FIM 2010. Where can I get this at, and how to install it properly.

Just FYI, you're probably best off opening a new question rather than resurrecting an old, closed question. Many people don't look at threads that are already marked as 'answered'. Now, what Oracle software did you install? Off the top of my head, there's a few things to check (based on what has worked for us): From memory, the Oracle management agent requires the full Oracle client software (I don't think the Instant Client works). We use version 10.2.0 and it works fine. We also install to C:\Oracle rather than C:\Program Files as suggested in one of the above posts.Make sure you install the 64-bit version of the Oracle Client, the 32-bit version won't work with FIM.Make sure the Oracle client install directory AND install directory/bin are added to your PATH environment variable. The account running your synchronization service must have full control permissions to the Oracle install folder and all subfolders.

It's because the OLEDB for Oracle is not register in the Windows's Registry. We had to configurate it. We usually copy the XCOPY version Oracle client to the server, it's necessary to configurate it after copy. C:\Oracle\ODAC112030Xcopy_x64\configure.bat oledb C:\Oracle\ODAC112030Xcopy_x64\ From China,To World!Knowledge can change your life!
