Unable to install SCOM 2012 Reporting Services-no instance listed
I created a new SQL server and am using the default instance for SCOM, which I thought would work. Do I have to create a new instance if this is a dedicated server...all other components install correctly. Is there a way to force the install
of reporting services.
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
I assume you checked the supported SQL versions first. There are some things you can check:
Are you using the right SQL collation on the SQL box? This should be SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS for SCOM 2007 R2 and SCOM 2012. No other are supported.Check if the SQL server is listening on the configured port. By default this is 1433. If you use another port you should specify this during the SCOM installation. You can test this with telnet. (install the telnet client on a Windows 2008 box) Use
this command: telnet <servername> 1433When you are using SQL 2008 R2 + SP1 make sure that CU4 is installed.Check if all the SPN's are registered for the SQL box. When you use a AD account for running the SQL service it won't be able to register all required SPN's. Please check if the
MSSQLSvc SPN for the SQL server is registered. This can be done in AD or in CMD. If this SPN is not registered correctly the SQL service won't be found.Make sure you are doing the installation for reporting on the SQL server and not on the SCOM server! This is a common mistake.Test is the reporting services are installed. If you are installing SCOM 2007 R2 the database has to be created manually:

If you are installing SCOM 2012 reporting this blog might come in handy:

Hope this helps,

Hi Ron
Can you confirm that you have installed SQL Reporting Services and service packed it on the default instance?
If you open Internet Explorer and go to http://ServerName/Reports then does the SQL Reporting Services html interface appear?
If yes to both the above - Make sure the SQL Server agent service is running (set to automatic).
Cheers
Graham

Hello Ron,
If you use the default instance, it should only show you the SQL server, as it selects the default instance by default.
Install your DB manually, in the 2007 R2 release there was a DBCreateWizard.exe in the supporttools folder, don't know how they handle it in SCOM 2012 though.
Be sure your SQL is running as it should (Marthijn van Rheenen detailed comprehensively how to do that).
Installation-Preparation for 2007 R2 after creating DB manually:
Rename local Usergroup ...
SQLServerReportServerUser$<hostname>$MSSRS10_50.<SQLInstanceName>
to
SQLServerReportServerUser$<hostname>$MSSRS10.<SQLInstanceName>
then install reporting
then undo changes

Hi
The most likely result is that SQL Reporting Services is not installed or not configured.
1) DBCreateWizard is no longer available. There is no need to rename or change any groups.
2) Setting SPNs is valid and great info but it won't stop the instance from showing in the installation.
3) All other components have installed correctly so it isn't a firewall issue with port 1433. SQL RS is a web service anyway.
Perhaps you could confirm your architecture here - are you looking to install all the components on one server?
Cheers
