Unable to get Report Manager to work.
I have been fighitng this problem for 2 days now and have tried several things I have found on the fourm to no avail. I can not access the report manager for SQL Reporting Services 2008. (http://localhost/reports). when starting this project and I first tried to go to the report manager I recived the following error. " The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." My Report server seems to be running fine if I go to the actual report server (http://localhost/reportserver) That loads the report directory fine and I can even click on reports made by crm that are located there. However when I go to the reports manager I get teh above error. After going thru alot of posts on the fourms an trying diffrent things I was able to move past this error but now get a diffrent error. What I did is I noticed in the IIS of the server that I had two virtual directories listed there reportserver and reports that pointed to invalid direcotires. I deleted these out of IIS and now recive the follwoing when going to http://localhost/reports . "The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version." Going to http://localhost/reportserver still works. Any help on this problem would be great!. Detial of install below. Service Account: Network Service Webservice URL http://<servername>:80/ReprotServer Reprot Manger URL http://<servername>:80/Reports

Hi Terry, Follow these steps to solve this issue: 1. Open the reporting services configuration manager tool, and click "Report Manager URL" and check its Virtual Directory and URLs, then apply them again. 2. If the report manager still does not work, copy report manager's Virtual Directory and Url. 3. Open windows explorer and go to report server folder and locate rsreportserver.config, by default, it is stored at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.JNMSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer. 4. Before opening the rsreportserver.config file, make a copy to be used as a backup. 5. In the rsreportserver.config file, find <URLReservation>-><Application>-><Name>Report Manager</Name> tags and update its <VirtualDirectory> and <UrlString> tags' value as you seen in reporting services configuration manager tool. Repeated the above steps for the report server, then save the file and reload the report manager page again. thanks, Jerry

I am experiencing a similiar problem...think it has to do with access rights.... I restart the server and once everything is up and running. I go to the browser and type in the http://servername/reportserver and get the correct response. then I type in the http://servername/reports and it comes up with prompt for username and password. I enter the administrator and password for it and then nothing ...it just keeps clocking. I try to go back to the servername/reportserver and it just clocks. if I restart server again....it goes through the same process... Not sure how to fix this? Jack Pennypacker
