Unable to enter the product key in the Convert License Type page (textbox is read-only)
We installed both WSS and MOSS SP2 and had planned to follow the manual fix for the known issue that the patch unexpectedly activates a trial expiration. However, the textbox to enter the product key is read-only. We have tried accessing this page using the normal administrator credentials as well as the farm account; no success. The SP2 issue and manual fix is detailed here, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/971620We were able to experience this problem on a farm running the Feb 2007 cummulative patch (version 12.0.0.6341.5002) so it's not related to the SP. But running the SP increasing the need to find the fix.Any help is appreciated,J. Aqui

We usually install from the actualDVD so I am not sure if the trial has a different interface. We had issues before with "activating" Enterprise client license. Usually it is only grayed out (READ ONLY) when it has already been upgraded. Not sure about it if it is evaulatiion version. That's SharePoint for you...

Turns out we were running the top license (Office SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License) and the product key textbox is only enabled when an upgrade is possible.J. Aqui

So if you already have the top license then would this SP2 issue (reverting to trial)affect you then? I haven't done the upgrade yet (don't want to break anything) so just wondering. We will be testing things out on our staging environment before we move it to production. That's SharePoint for you...

I was only able to verify this for the environment running the Feb 2007 cummulative patch. As far as the environment running the SP2, immediately following the patch, I saw that the license textbox was read-only. Some time later, one of my coworkers was able to enter the product key. Unfortunately, I was not able to confirm first-hand that it was running in trial mode prior to that person entering the key, which in turn reset the textbox to read only and the license type listed to Enterprise.I did open a ticket with MS and was told by them why the textbox becomes read-only and thatSP2 will always revert to the trial license. We will be upgrading another SP farm in the near future and I will update this when I have first-hand experience.Good luck,J. Aqui

We are running the enterprise version as well and the textbox is disabled but the search and publishing sites both say the trial has expired. We installed the latest patch for the license fix, the timer license sync job ran fine but we still see the error. WHAT NOW?

Dont know if this is gonna help in any way.....but here it goes. I installed a slipstream image of MOSS 2007 + SP2 with June 2009 CU and used a Enterprise CAL licence key. In addition i updated the server with both WSS and MOSS August 2010 CU. I then created a new web app with the predefined Network Service account for the application pool. After creating a new site collection, of any kind, i was unable to create publishing sites and unable to activate the publishing features. The error that popped up was "The trial period for this product has expired". Latter i switched the App Pool account to a local admin when the error stopped popping up. Regards, P

So do you have to reinstall SharePoint to get around this issue? Thanks, John
