Unable to do in-place upgrade of IBM physical server from Windows 2003 to 2008

Hi All,

We have IBM physical server model x3650-[79798BG] has Windows 2003 R2, 32-bit with SP2 installed. We are trying to do in-place upgrade to Windows 2008 32-bit. After running upgrade wizard, as soon as it reaches the 'Expanding files' option, the installations stops with following error message:

"Could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation can not proceed"

Can someone please help me out on this.

Hi

You could check the server compability on server catalog,

http://www.windowsservercatalog.com

But when i check it on IBM official site Windows Server 2008 is not supported OS for IBM x3650 also you could check

http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/printableversion.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_sm/3/877/ENUS7979-_h13/index.html

I recommend that you will try to update firmware to the newest version.

Thanks for your help. I will try to upgrade the firmware, however upgrade had been successful with other servers with same hardware model.

No luck even after firmware upgrade. As per IBM hardware is compatible.

Hi

As you say you can install other servers same to this harware model. And did the firmware upgrade.Just i think it is a hardware issue, and you should consult this to hardware vendor.

Hi Burak,

I have spoken to IBM and they are saying the same thing that if it is working for other servers with same configuration, then it is certainly not a hardware issue. It is an unforeseen OS issue.
