Unable to crawl File share content

Hi,

We are working on Migrating search service application to SharePoint 2013. We have a content source with File share as the source. When crawling the content in SP 2013 environment we are seeing below error.

Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled. ( SearchID = 39B99864-D92A-4B4C-922C-4CEA91895578 )

  • We are using same service account to crawl the content in SP 2010 and SP 2013 environments and permissions are in place.
  • We are able to access the content (Network drive) from the server using same account.
  • Verified Disableloopbackcheck (regedit) is enabled.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nisanth

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you crawled file shares in SharePoint 2013.

Firstly, go to your SharePoint server, and open Start->Administrative Tools->Services, scroll to SharePoint Search Host Controller, check the service account.

Go to the computer that hosts file shares, then grant the service account Manage Auditing And Security Log permission and compare the result.

Refer to the article:

If the issue persists, please provide detail error message of ULS log  to determine the exact cause of the error. ULS log
