that's an error when FIMService (under FIMService service a/c context) tries to talks to Exchange Web Service. i would first check if exchange is running [on that ip] or not.The FIM Password Reset Blog http://blogs.technet.com/aho/

i dont know why it would try to talk to an exchange..its my fim service on box "fimsvr2" talking to my portal/Active directory box "fimsvr1" but theres no exchnage installed on fimsvr1...what do i need to check/reconfigure to fix this up? also..i believe the underlying iss is to d with this error: System: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 136.133.248.91:443 i didnt think fimsvr2 tried to connect to fimsvr one on 443? how can i check / change this? appreciate the help! stu

the error you posted has nothing to do with "service not available error". you need to enable FIMPortal tracing and post the stack here See my first reply in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/af1a96df-0a89-4f95-86b4-93379a66b968/ on how to enable portal tracing

stuballz, If you put http://<nameofFIMServiceServer>:5725 in an IE windows from the machine you are attempting to reach the portal from, does it connect properly? If this works, then that means the service endpoint is listening and is accessible from whatever machine you are attempting to access this from. If you can't get to this site, how about http://<nameofportalserver>, does that work? If not, this could be a Sharepoint issue. Are you using an alias or attempting to user server name directly. Are you using the MS recommended install guide, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee534909(WS.10).aspx?

for the user you are trying to go to the portal (and receive the error), is that user's domain, accountName, displayName and ObjectSid are populated properly?

issue raised with MS...somehow the administrator account in the portal was deleted so it couldnt authenticate to any user when trying to access the portal...started over with fresh databse to solve problem...no idea how it may have happened though in the first place stu
