Hi

Based on my research, we just can access resource across domains when the domain is a child domain or a trusted domain. If you want to access a network location on another domain and the domain is untrusted, so it is certain that you will not access it.

You can learn more information about across domain in the link below.

Just as you mentioned, you are able to access the drives after mapping it as a network drive. It is due to accessing to the drive which shared in the same sub-network has no relation to the accessing to the domain drive. If the shared settings are right, you are certain to access to a drive after you shared it in the same sub-network as yours.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your reply. I do not have this issue in Windows 7, It works fine in Windows 7 machines whn i access shares located in other AD Domain, It prompts for credentials and once i provide them i get the access in Explorer.

But in windows 8.1 it says network path not found.

Also i am looking in the article you gave.

Hi,

I have understood your issue after you replied to me. Although the shared driver is in other domain, the shared driver is also in the same sub-network as yours, so you could access it in Windows 7. I infer it is shared settings problem that you cant access it in Windows 8.1. I suggest you follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.

Firstly, check the shared permissions. Right click the drive that you want to share > Properties. In Sharing tab, click share, then add your user name which you want to access to the shared drive. Choose the PC and click Share. Back to the Sharing tab > Advanced Sharing > Permissions. In the new window, choose the user name you want to share to, and select the permissions for the username.

In addition to checking permissions, you would better to check the connection on your PC which you want to access. Disable the 3rd party anti-virus software. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections. Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4 > Properties > Advanced. In the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to WINS tab. Under NetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK.

Wish you can access it smoothly.

Best Regards

Simon
