Srujan, Could you check the Library Versioning Settings. 1. From the Doc Library Click Settings 2. Choose Doc Libaray Setting 3. Click Versioning Settings 4. In the Require Check Out section make sure "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited? " is set to yes to force the document to be checked out for editing. Is this all in the intranet zone and no extranet and all PC's are in the same domain. What version of IE are you using and is the site listed in the trusted zones (just wondering, not a need). Sorry for the dumb question but did you also clear the cache and empty the temp files in IE and reboot? Let us know if the link here helps as well. Also this is from Lambert with Microsoft on the same issue Kris Wagner, MVP, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog

Also this is from Lambert with Microsoft on the same issue Hi, I found 3 KBs related with the error message, please look at the KBs and Let us know if the solution can be helpful. Here are the KBs for your information: 1. You receive a "<FileName> is locked for editing by 'another user'" message when you try to modify a document in Windows SharePoint Services even though you are the user who previously opened the document (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899709) Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. 2. Error message when you try to edit documents in Office XP or in Office 2003: "This command is not available because the document is locked for editing" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930698) 3. "The document is locked for editing by another user" error message when you try to open a document in Word (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313472) If these solutions cannot resolve your issue, please let me know more information in order to do further research. 1. What is your Office version? Office 2003, Office 2007 or only Word is 2007 version and others are 2003 version? 2. Which formats of the document have the issue? Word 2007 formats (docx, dotx) or Word 97-2003f format (doc, dot) 3. Is the issue occurred in other Office files? Excel, PowerPoint…? 4.
