Unable to Access R2 Report Server
I am a longtime SSRS user/dev and thought I understood SSRS security but...I just installed SSRS 2008 R2 on a new Windows 7 Ultimate laptop and keep getting a "User 'xxx' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted
and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed." error when attempting to access Report Manager or deploy a report.
I am NOT on a domain. The user account is a member of Adminstrators and has no problem getting into the SQL Server using SSMS.
If I log in as the Administrator account, however, I have no problem even though my other account is a member of Administrators.
Anyone know what is going on? I have never had this problem with SSRS 2000, 2005, or 2008.
Thanks,

Hi Paul,
I had also faced the same issue. I was admin on the box (Win 2008 server) where SSRS 2008 was hosted. I was not able to access the report server when I ran the browser on normal mode. However I was able to access when I ran it as admin. I thought this
might be due to UAC. To overcome this I added myself as System Admin in SSRS.

Hi Paul,
Please run Internet Explorer(IE) as Administrator to fix the issue.
Yes. This issue is caused by UAC. In Windows 7, IE run under user privileges, which is not enough for accessing Report Server.
You could find more information about this issue from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi Jin
I also have an issue trying to load the Report Manager after clicking on the URL within Reporting Services Configuration Manager. (http://localhost:8080/Reports). I get the same message that Paul received and I
have tried to follow your solution. I get as far as running IE in Administrator mode but do not have a 'Properties' link on the home page of Report Manager.
I am using SSRS2008 Express edition. Please note, I am all new to this, so please bear with me.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Dean,
Once you browse to the url as admin, you will see "Site Settings" at the right-hand top corner.
Click on it. In the resulting window, click on Security.
In the next window, click on "New Role Assignment".
Add the id for which you want to give admin access on the report server and select "System Administrator" role.
Once this added, you can open the URL in normal mode with this ID and you will be able to add other users.

Hi Suresh
Thanks for coming back to me.
Been looking at this today prior to seeing your response. I had to change my 'User Account Control Settings' to 'Never Notify' before I could actually see the Report Manager home page. Now I can see the link for site settings.
I did as you suggested and created a new role assignment and added my user profile.
Now I have another issue....
From inside Reporting Services Configuration Manager, if I click the URL for either Web Service or Report Manager, the page loads fine. However, if I open up Report Builder 2 and make a slight change to the report and then try and Save As, I get the following....
Connection failed
Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL, 'http://localhost:8080/Reports'
I have double checked the URL and it looks fine. If I actually type it in manually on a webpage, the page loads ok.
Therefore, I've come to the conclusion that I must be using some other profile when working within Report Builder, but I'm not sure.
Again, yours or anybody elses assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dean

Hi Dean,
The Report Builder 2.0 should connect to
'http://localhost:8080/ReportServer', not
'http://localhost:8080/Reports'.
After changing
'http://localhost:8080/Reports' to
'http://localhost:8080/ReportServer', you will be able to save reports to report server.
Thanks,
Jin
