USMT question

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me regarding using USMT with SCCM.

I've configured SCCM to capture/restore user states, which works fine. I do not want to capture everything though. Do I simply use the /genconfig:config.xml command to generate a new xml file and exclude items from being migrated in that file?

The only settings we are interested in keeping are MS Office user settings and possibly another folder or two within each user profile.  Nothing major.

What would be the easiest way to do that?

Thanks!

Also if I did use a config.xml file, how does USMT deal with items that are not included in config.xml ?  For instance what if another application is installed on a workstation that scanstate runs on that is not referenced in config.xml ?  Will it migrate it or will it exclude it being that it was not referenced in config.xml  ?

Hi,

The following article decribes how USMT works. It should resolve your doubts.

You can use the config.xml to exclude different components from the migration. Personally, I would start here in the documentation: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824928.aspx
