Hi, I am having a problem while executing scanstate.exe from a TS. I am getting "Failed to run the action: USMT Scan. No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept. (Error: 00000047; Source: Windows)TSManager22.09.2009 16:55:501792 (0x0700)"This step is executed in the begining of the TS under WinPE. I have tried different version of the command to test if the format is incorrect. I am using scanstate.exe /hardlink /nocompress and I have also tried /offline (just to test it)But doesnt really matter get the same error message.Has anyone seen this before or does anyone know what I can try to do to solve this problem? I am trying to perform and inplace upgrade with hardlinks. Hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. Thanking you all in advance. Rao

Scanstate is run in Windows PE. I have been getting different error, and have figured out using scanstate.log that the files were beeing written to X drive.Have nowchanged that path.Now I am having a different error which says that /hardlink and /nocompress parameters require migapp.xml and migdoc.xml. I will keep on trying atleast til i get i working :) I have seen it work on a SCCM presentation held by Microsoft. But any help would be greatly appritiated. this is the command line that can be used from within the full windows client to scan the windows.old folder. Maybe this will work in WinPE as well or something similar to it. Instead of pointing it to windows.old\windows it would be pointed to c:\windowsscanstate c:\usmt /o /c /nocompress /i:miguser.xml /i:migapp.xml /hardlink /offlinewinold:c:\windows.old\windowsRich Baker

So you mean that I can use the built in step in SCCM with SP2 for usmt and dont need to run scanstate.exe as a command line? I am currently trying the above command with a bit of modifications. I am rather using /OfflineWinDir:"C:\windows". Is it possible to get some miguser and migapp along with migdocs just to see how they can be utelizesed? when I test any deployment that involves USMT I always separate the state capture and state restore parts of the task sequence to insure that they are working before worrying about the rest of the osd , create two separate task sequences, one for state capture with all the steps you need and advertise it to a collection called.... state capture do the same thing for one called state restore use direct membership to add the computer you want to test this on to the collection then advertise the TS as mandatory and set the program rerun behaviour to always rerun... this way you can run the TS over and over again until you have verified that both the state capture and state restore sections work... it's a bit different with hardlinking but you can apply the same logic, the key to your success is in reading the following two logs every time you initiate a state capture scanstate.log scanstateprogress.log edit: after re-reading i can see you want to use OfflineWinDir which is used within Windows PE, therefore do not use the Capture User State task in the task sequence as that can only run in Full OS mode.
