USMT 4.0 and Windows XP (x86) to Windows 7 (x64)
Hi
I'm hoping for some clarification relating to an issue I'm having with USMT 4.0 and migrating settings from Office 2003 on Windows XP x86 systems to Office 2010 on Windows 7 x64 systems (Office 2003 and 2010 are both the x86 versions). In particular
I'm looking for clarification around the following comments in this document
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2023591:
Because of the way that user settings are stored in the registry, USMT can migrate Office settings from the following installations:
From an x64-based installation of Office to only an x64-based installation of OfficeFrom an x86-based installation of Office to only an x86-based installation of Office
Therefore, settings and customizations that you try to migrate from an x86-based installation of Office to an x64-based installation of Office might not take effect on the new installation.
Am I correct in thinking that by 'x86-based' and 'x64-based' in this context it means the operating system architecture as opposed to the Office version being x86 or x64? If it's the former then that pretty
much answers my question as I've applied the update available from the link but while I'm seeing things such as Outlook signatures being migrated over to the new workstations, they're not being automatically mapped so users have to go in and reselect
them manually.
Thanks in advance
Stewart
