USB Drives (Unrelated to SCCM but where I am having problems)

We order sandisk USB drives, my computer will see them, add them as a usable storage device (D:\) and I can add/remove/delete files from it. But when I try and make bootable task sequence media I am unable to select the drive. I choose the USB option but there is not a drive to choose from. I have gone through DISKPART and tried to reconfig it that way but still no go for the console.

Has anyone else seen this?

I "think" you can save the bootable media as an iso then use a free utlity to put the iso onto the USB drive.

The problem here is that newer USB key drives are not recognized as removable devices anymore -- this is the result of new Win 8 requirements. At this time, there is no direct solution. The product team is aware.

I haven't explicitly tried to overcome this limitation but John's solution is a good place to start.

No, the OS you are using makes no difference. The fixed vs. removable drive is a characteristic of the USB drive itself.

I always prefer doing the iso thing, it's faster to do multiple USB sticks that way.
