URL Configuration
I am in the process of of deploying ForeFront Identity Manager, part of the system runs on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. I have it working but want to change the URL my users enter to access the portal. Currently I can access the FIM portal by typing in https:\\<servername>\identitymanagement Is it possible to change the DNS name users type in to access to portal so they don't have to add the \identitymangement part in the URL and are taken directly to the identitymanagement site. When I enter just the server name I get the default Team Site, under the Sites and Workspaces I see my two portal sites, but only the user that installed the WSS can access that. This is the first time I have setup sharepoint so please forgive me if I have missed something regarding the configuration. I also looked in IIS under the sites but only have the following: Default Web Site , SharePoint - 80 and Sharepoint Central Administration v3. This is a standlone installation only for FIM so I am not worried about breaking other sites. If you have suggestions and could give me some pointers it would welcome. Thanks Bill

Hello, but only the user that installed the WSS can access that ....what do you mean by this ....when you create your first web application and then site collection on port 80 you don't need to add some extra stuff like \identitymanagement ..can you provide the exact scenario you are having ..like what web application,,site collection or sit and btw if you want to change the name of the website to a user friendly name then you can use host headers also ie also if you want your every site to run on port 80. Thanks

In IIS you see just the web applications and not site or site collection..I am not sure what your exact problem is as i don't have much idea about identity manager also ..Did you do this installation in basic mode or advance mode. Thanks

Sharepoint99 Thanks for taking interest in my problem. Being a complete sharepoint noob I must have screwed up things the first go around. The Sharepoint install is using the basic mode, single server. This application really doesn't need a sharepoint farm installation according to the technet docs. I wiped the server OS and reinstalled (fresh start), then install Windows Sharepoint 3.0 x64. I then create two additional sites with the DNS names I wanted and then the site content. The web applications appeared under IIS. I think before I was creating them under the Sharepoint - 80 default site or something. After installing the wildcard SSL cert, setting up host headers and granting authenticated users access I can browse to both sites. ForeFront IdentityManager during the installation creates two sub sites and assumes that sharepoint is configured and working. I have instructions on how to move a sub site up a level to the root to shorten the URL the users have to enter. I hope this will lead to the end result that I'm looking for. Thanks
