UPS: remigrate only changed user settings

Hi,

We have SharePoint 2010 Live migrated to SharePoint 2013 dev for now. We do not allow users create personal sites (only allow Use personal features) on SharePoint 2010 Live.

Once we will go live we would like to refresh users' profile settings on SharePoint 2013 in case someone edited his profile. How can this be accomplish without recreating whole UPS? Can we just recreate UPS_Profiles database on SharePoint 2013 SQL instance?

Thanks

Hi,

To upgrade the User Profile service application, you create the new service application and upgrade the database, and then create a proxy and add it to the default proxy group and then start the User Profile Synchronization service. After you have created the User Profile Service service application, you must import the Microsoft Identity Integration Server Key (MIIS) encryption key.

You need to associate SQL instance with User Profile Service Application.

The User Profile service has three databases that support SharePoint Server 2013. The three User Profile service databases are shown in the following list. The tables that follow the list display the relevant database information.

  • Profile: The Profile database stores and manages users and associated information. It also stores information about a user's social network in addition to memberships in distribution lists and sites.

  • Synchronization: The Synchronization database stores configuration and staging data for use when profile data is being synchronized with directory services such as Active Directory.

  • Social Tagging: The Social Tagging database stores social tags and notes created by users, alongside their respective URLs.

The SocialDBName and ProfileSyncDBName parameters are optional. Use these parameters if you have Social and Sync databases that you want to upgrade. If you do not specify these parameters, new Social and Sync databases are created for you.

You could specify ProfileDBName only during the upgrade.
