Two SCCM central sites in same domain, one without boundaries?
We are currently managing our workstations in a SCM hierarchy. Now we would like to run SW inventory at servers too. To be able to just activate the inventory component for servers we need to have them in a separate site. (To avoid application distribution to servers by human mistake.) Unfotunately servers and workatations exist in the same subnets which makes a boundary separation impossible. My idea is to set up a new central site for server mangement, but without any boundaries. When installing the SCCM agent at servers, the site code should be hard-coded to the server site, and the the site "Discover" button in the client GUI disabled. All AD discovery methods should be turned off, only Heartbeat Discovery active. We currently don't need any other functionality except for the inventory part. Would this approach work?Regards Per Eriksson

Hi, If you are only going to use hardware/software inventory, Yes it will work. Regards, Jörgen-- visit my System center blog at http://ccmexec.com --

You can also configure the site in Native mode and use "hardcoded" site systemsKent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

The only thing that does not work without boundaries is the automatic site assignment and "roaming" (IOW locating the "best" location for content). Even software distribution does work without boundaries.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Thanks a lot everyone for the answers! I guess the inability for Roaming is a minor problem when managing servers :-)Regards Per Eriksson

OK, but since we have no current PKI infra to use for this purpose, this solution is a bit more complicated.Regards Per Eriksson
