Helloooooo Markus! Thanks for replying. Ok. I have lots of questions (pls remember that an installation tutorial supposed to be for beginners, noobs so the author should not take everything as granted and count on that the users understand his/her intensions and what step are needed). Question #1 order of installation (software) I mapped the programs needed for the server: SQLServer 2008 64-bit Standard or Enterprise Editions. Microsoft Visual Studio2008 Windows Powershell 1.0 Exchange2007 SP1 Management Console Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Features - can be installed from the Features options interface included with Windows Server 2008. Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework ( http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=129538 ) Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=105802) ILM2 files (ILM2_RC_langpacks_2173.zip) around 2.3m ILM2 files (ILM2_RC0.exe) around 80m. Web Server (IIS) enabled in roles in the server Do I have all the software needed (for the server)? Does It matters what's the installation order? I have Windows Server 2008 64-bit Enterprise Edition installed and ready. Question #2 tasks to do before installing ILM2 application "Before you install the ILM "2" server and client components, you must complete the following configuration tasks in the order shown:" So If I understand correct I need to install all of the above applications beside the ILM2 and to do tasks 1-6? Question #3 pls be more informative regarding all the 1-6 tasks. For example from the official tut: "If you are running the Exchange Web Service and IIS default web site (ILM"2" Portal) on the same server, ensure that both are not configured to use port 80." So I guess you're a) IIS default website Default website (right click) -> manage web site -> advanced settings -> Bindings http:*:80: Change the port with edit bindings (in sign bindings) and also what port we need to change to here? What is recommended? This is a very simple example (also need to describe here how to handle the second part for Exchange Web Service), there're tasks that ppl don't know how to start them since it's very general. I'm talking about ALL 1-6 tasks here (and later will post some question on other parts in the tut) for example: "Configure the service accounts that are running the ILM "2" server components in a secure manner." What is a secure manner? What are the best practices? Where I should configure it? How can I check it was configured in a secure manner etc. Do you understand? It is written in very general writing. Pls do it without shortcuts. Pls give us the users complete and detailed information. I guess you have wondefull product (I was satisfied with miis 2003 it served me well) which will be beneficial and proper for my needs. But without knowing how to proper install it and configure it well... are you getting my point here? Just a thought - If ppl and users outside MS need to add remarks and write posts regarding the installation process than in the bottom line the documentation is not up to scratch. Pls consider recording the process to a movie using Wink (http://www.debugmode.com/wink/download.php ) or similar utility and putting it in Microsoft website. I have found some movies (but not installation/configuration related ones) in Mark's blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/MarkGabarra Why not record it only once from the beginning to the end (the WHOLE installation process) and putting it in the website? One pic worth more than 1000 words (and one movie worth more than 1000 pics I guess). It will save support time for you and other workers @MS. You can also do it and record common usage of the product. Thanks and keep up the good work (here in the forum and in MS)!

Hi Zest, in defence of the ILM 2 documentation - what you are dealing with here is a Release Candidate version - that is a pre release version, so it is not surprising that the documentation is not exhaustive yet. The product will still change before the final release, and I'm sure Markus and others in the team will be working flat out to get the resources available in time. Up until then, if you really want to continue with ILM 2, then you need to do the best you can from the Connect newsgroup and other available resources. Or, as I said to you before, stick to the current release version ILM 2007 for now. While it might not provide the nice portal interface there is still all sorts of great stuff you can do with it, and it is free of all those annoying RC bugs. Carol http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis

Thanks, Zest, this is very good feedback! I will forward your comments to the owner of the install guide. We are internally debating the video idea for quite a while. The biggest obstacle so far was having the time to do this. I woul like to encourage everybody on this forum to provide feedback like this - it is highly appreciated!
