Trying to locate the web.config chain (due to duplicate windowsauthenticationmodule entry)

We currently had all sites go down this morning and found that the logs are reporting a duplicate windowsauthentication module entry. To get the sites up again, the entry was remarked out in the securitytoken web.config file temporarily.

We are currently looking for assistance in the location of the web.config chain so that we can find the file with the duplicate entry, its alteration date, etc.

Can anyone assist us by providing this information or a viable way to find. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks you much

Hi,

As your description, my understanding is that you want to konw the path of web.config of SharePoint. Is it right?

For each web application, there is a web.config file, its path is: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\[the port of the web application]. If you make changes in the file, the changes only affect the special web application.

There is also a global web.config file, it is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\CONFIG. If you make changes in this file, it will affect the entire farm web applications.

If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to reply.

Best Regards,

Wendy
