Trouble with Hardware Inventory
Hi all,
We have discovered what appears to be a problem with our site MP processing Hardware inventory information. It appears that the inventory agent is running successfully on the clients and is being sent to the MP but it seems it is not getting any further
than that. The InventoryAgent.log has run recently but when I go into resource explorer on the correspnding object in the SCCM console it shows that inventory has not been updated since 6/1. I've been watching the MP_Hinv.log file
and with >10,000 clients should it not be showing almost constant activity? Where else should I looking for indicators of what these symptoms are pointing to? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Based on initial testing - following the inventory up through the process based on the the Garth Jones post - the client reports that the inventory is sent but it never appears in the MP_Hinv.log. According to the ClientLocation.log the
client is pointing to the correct server as MP. So what would keep the MP from acknowledging the receipt of the inventory report?sinkingthom

Hi,
Is there any error in the IIS log?
If so, please check if it is running into the scenarios in the following KB article:
No updated inventory information appears in the SMS Administrator
console for SMS 2003 Advanced Client computers

Sabrina

Thanks for all the replies. I marked An00p's reply as answer because it got me closest to the solution - very helpful troubleshooting tools. We ended up blasting everything but the OS from the site server that was the MP and starting from
scratch. As soon as we got the MP running again the HInv.log took off! Before that it was registering input about once every hour - not happy.sinkingthom
