Translation of word "Welcome" not appearing on sites created in Spanish
Hello,
We have encountered an issue on a site where we are creating a dozen variations using a combination of languages and locales. The issue is with the Welcome control that appears in the upper right of a SharePoint page. For all languages except Spanish,
the word "Welcome" is displayed correctly in that language. However, in Spanish you don't see the word at all.
English: Welcome John Doe
Russian: John Doe
Polish: John Doe - Zapraszamy!
Spanish: John Doe
This issue is persisting across our QA and PreProduction farms where we have created variations and have the necessary language packs installed. Only the Welcome word is missing in that control. All other content is displayed correctly
in Spanish, e.g. the Site Actions menus.
Has anyone ever seen this before and resolved it? We are running SP2 and the April 2010 CU but I have also confirmed that the issue exists on the Dec 2010 CU.
Thanks, Bruce...

Hi,
According to your description, check out whether you remove the <wssuc:Welcome id="Idwelcome" runat="server" EnableViewState=”false”>
</wssuc:Welcome>
from your custom master page in Spanish.
I suggest that you should install language packs for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 again. Maybe there is something wrong with the process of the installation. Please refer to the following article step by step:

Thanks David.
I found out that this is apparently a known issue for which a fix is not planned. I may end up opening a support case to force discussion on it.
