Top link bars of child sites are visible to users who do not have permission to read the sites
Hi. I have MOSS 2007 and a single non-publishing web site collection. One of my web sites has four child sites that do not inherit permissions from the parent and the top link bar from the parent site is used on each of the four child sites. Each of the four child sites has allocated the permission of read only to each of 4 different groups of users. In theory when a user logs on to the parent site, s/he would only see the top link bar of the child site for which they had permission to read, the other three being invisible. My problem is that all my users on logging on can see all the top link bars of all four child sites. They are denied access to the sites for which they do not have permission but I don't want them to be able to see the access denied top link bars at all.Does anyone have any pointers?

Hi Pete,Sounds like the entries may have been made manually to the navigation...Go to Site Settings > Modify Navigation > On the Child subistes and Parent Top level site > Ensure Show subsites is checked > Display the same navigation items as the parent site > Click OK > Open Navigatioin again > Check to ensure there are not not any links added....Note you can tell if links have been added by the type of icon used for the display, the link will show a HTTP stle link icon and the correct listing will show the WSS Site icon...Let me know if this resolves the issue or if you need further guidance......-IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Pete,You were correct I wasnt looking at a Team Site Collection which is very similar to a WSS3 Site Collection. In my opninion there have always been issues using Top Link as the navigation.Issues1. You have to create your navaigation links manually.2. The links are not security trimmedIf you are using MOSS, why start with a team site definition, try using the collaboration...Anyhow if you want the MOSS navigation, that is security trimmed and will build out according to your sites and the following commandstsadm -o activatefeature -name publishingsite -url "http://YourSite/sites/YouCollection" -forceCheers,-IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
