Although Open Office is compatible with the file formats used by Excel its not the same as Excel. You need a copy of Excel 2007 at the same service pack level as SharePoint to be able to export to a Spreadsheet.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Agreed with Paul's advice but before that check is there any proxy available in your browser ? If yes then disable it and then try to export the list to Excel Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

I marked this as an answer but I wonder about the requirement you mention of needing a copy of Excel 2007 at the same service pack level. As far as I know you need a copy of Excel 2007 but there's no service pack level requirement. Has this changed with the latest SPs?SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

I don't understand why you are asking the same question again. It has already been clearly stated that having Open Office on the client is not enough for the List to Export to SharePoint option to work. The system looks out for Microsoft Excel. It is not enough to have any other application that can open Excel files.SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

Actually Mike, I ran into this exact problem at a customers. They had upgraded SharePoint 2007 to SP2, but not upgraded Office and were having issues with Excel import and a few other office integration things. Upgrading Office to SP2 fixed the problems. I figured it was because things like export require specific code both in SharePoint and Office. At least with SP2 if you upgrade one side but not the other you can have issues.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

I was struggling with this as well, but found a work-around (i.e. no upgrade needed): Open Excel 2007 Select Data -> From Web Enter your SharePoint list URL (e.g. http://xyzcorp.com/Projects/EnterpriseICD10Site/Lists/IRAAD/All%20Items.aspx ) Expand any sections that you want in Excel From within Excel, select Action -> Export to Spreadsheet Select Save and save to some location Back in Excel open the file that was saved (selecting "all" files since it is a ".iqy" file, and BINGO

Hi there, I just saw this post what we did was to ensure that Excel Services under Site Settings for the site was activated, we received the same error until this was completed. Hope that helps.
