I have had a client in the past with this issue. In their particular case, they built their site intending to refer to it by the servername/appname, e.g. http://friendlyname. A subset of the users was instructed to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), e.g. http://friendlyname.organizationname.com. This should have been fine, but was not because there was not an Alternate Access Mapping with the FQDN. When the users would try to check in a document, they would get a "problem" message like you have mentioned. In the short term, I had the users use the shorter servername/appname and this corrected the issue. Hope this helps, Troy Lanphier
