There are no icons displayed if a document (.docx, xlsx or pptx) is within a document set
Hi I am using SharePoint 2013 SP1 with the September 2014 CU. If I search for documents in document libraries, they work fine and in the search results I get the Icon to the left of the text showing what type of file it is and the refiner panel shows the different filetypes are returned.

However, if the document is within a document set which itself is inside a document library, then there are no "filetype" refiners shown and the icon to the left of the text of the search result is not there.

Have I misconfigured somnething ?

Hi

Further investigation ahs shown that ctx.currentitem.filetype = null

Which explains why there is no Icon, but why is ctx.currentitem.filetype null ?

Hi

I have managed to get it to work, but I am not happy.

The original (not working version) had "Display Templates" in Search Results Properties set to "Use result type rules to decide".  Which I assumed was the correct one to use.

The working version has under "Display Templates" in Search Results Properties set to "use a single  template to display Items" set to "Word Item".

Hi

According to your description, There are no icons displayed if a document is within a document set.

For your issue, make sure you have made the Type column displayed in the library.

Go to Library->Modify View->make sure the Type column has been selected:

Hi Lisa

The problem is when I run a search. Not when I view a document library view.

The search results are not showing the icon for the result type.

Hi,

In my SharePoint 2013 server, I have done a test and I can't reproduced your issue.

Even when I set "Display Templates" in Search Results Properties to "Use result type rules to decide". The search results are showing the icon for the result which is from Document set.

I suggest you done a test in other site or other web application, compare the result.

Best regards,

Hi Lisa

It turned out to be a problem with the crawler. The Search environment was set up when the system was locked down and we were getting errors "The Sandbox worker process was closed" in the crawl log.  I got the AD people to make the changes in the following blog to some GPOs. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/spblog/archive/2013/10/08/crawl-error-sharepoint-2013-processing-this-item-failed-because-of-an-unknown-error-when-trying-to-parse-its-contents.aspx

I still had the error, so I rebuilt search using PowerShell and did a full crawl and it started working.

Thank you for your help.

Nigel
