The system cannot find the file specified - The server encountered an unexpected error and stopped. (FIM 2010)
I cannot start FIM service on Windows Server 2008 R2. Because of this, my Sharepoint Portal 2010 Sync Profile service doesn't work. Where is what is logged in System Event. Can I do something ti fix this ? The server encountered an unexpected error and stopped. I've gotten the exactly same issue. Can't figure out what's happening either. The same log entries in the Event log. Running Windows Server 2008 R2 as well. Installed all prereqs for SharePoint. I do have a problem with the "Secure Store Services" (in SharePoint 2010) as well - can't Generate a new Key. Get the error: "Master key was not populated while trying to set credentials" in the sharepoint log file. Could it be someting related to the "windows identity foundation" / Geneva / Secure Tokens. In this area I'm absolutely no expert. This error I'll post in the SharePoint forum as well. The errors may be related... Regards, Frode

I've reinstalled SharePiint 2010. The Secure Store Services issue went away, but the FIM issue (and the resulting Profile Sync issue) remains. /Frode

SharePoint 2010 is NOT currently supported by FIM 2010. Only WSS 3.0 can be used with FIM. The question was already asked, and confirmed as not supported by Andreas here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-AU/ilm2/thread/2d8a48c9-38c7-4cce-998d-d09942b9ee21

Hi. In my case it is the FIM services automatically deployed by SharePoint 2010 that don't work. FIM 2010 Portal may not be supported, but SharePoint 2010 are depending on a couple of the services. It's the User Profile Services that wan't work without them. I've tried several different installations (on different servers), but the issue remains in my environement. /Frode

Hi again. The issue is definitely related to the rights that the farm admin account (entered when running the SharePoint wizrad and creating the farm). This domain account must have extra Active Directory rights. This article specifies what they are: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721049(office.14).aspx. But I'm not sure that Replicate Directory Changes is the only permission needed. I had to add more to make things work, but haven't pin pointed excatly which (yet). PS! Running with Domain Admin rights works, but NOT recommended in a production farm. Regards, Frode Sorhoy
