The permissions granted to user 'x' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) - no workaround works for me
Installed SSRS 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services today on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. Installed latest updates Computer name is POIPU. User "x" has Windows admin authority on POIPU. SQL Server Reporting Services windows service is started. rsreportserver.config (in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQLEXPRESS\Reporting Services\ReportServer) has: <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/> RS Config Manager shows: Virtual Directory = ReportServer TCP Port 80 No SSL, no SSL port URL: http://POIPU:80/ReportServer Click">http://POIPU:80/ReportServer I click the URL and am prompted for userid/password. Type userid x and associated password. Domain is POIPU. Get the "permission granted to user 'x' are insufficient" error. Open IE9 and type URL: http://localhost/reportserver Type userid x and associated password. Domain is POIPU. Get same error. Why? DadCat

Hi, Did you try the suggestion work-around in this blog post? http://shahfaisalmuhammed.blogspot.com/2011/10/reporting-services-access-error-caused.html Also, try adding the Report Server URL to your trusted sites in Internet Explorer. Shahfaisal Muhammed http://shahfaisalmuhammed.blogspot.com

Hi There Please also have a look on this thread http://tanveeronline.blogspot.co.nz/2011/07/ssrs-2008-r2-unable-to-connect-to.html http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/hu-HU/sqlreportingservices/thread/f8a0a3f5-3985-4356-8404-3b408f790747 http://www.networksteve.com/enterprise/topic.php?TopicId=24217 In the last section of this thread it get resolved by "Changing the ports. Configured TCP port to 9000 and SSL port to 9001. And then <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/> Its value was 2, changed it to 0." Please also have a look on this http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/11ce1dfd-38da-469b-a45a-abe69646d9e6/ Many thanks Syed Qazafi Anjum

I read those threads before I posted the problem, and none helped. I set http://localhost as a trusted site, ran IE9 as administrator, and verified that SecureConnectionLevel = 0. Didn't fix the problem. The report server log is below. Could the connection errors related to the report server database being in "script update mode" (in bold) be causing my problem? I can't tell if it retried successfully or not... OK, I decided to start over... I un-installed SQL Server and cleaned-up anything related to SQL Server... even renamed the old \Program Files\SQL Server and \Program Files (x86)\SQL Server folders, then rebooted... Did a fresh install of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services from an .exe I downloaded from MS this week. Installed on Win 7 Ultimate 64 with SP1 and latest updates. Accepted all default settings. Rebooted. Checked that SecureConnectionLevel = 0 in rsreportserver.config. Verified ReportServer$SQLEXPRESS and ReportServer$SQLEXPRESSTempDB databases were present, and I could access them via SSMS. Opened Reporting Services Configuration Manager and verified the settings under Web Service URL: Virtual Directory = ReportServer_SQLEXPRESS IP Address: All Assigned TCP Port: 80 SSL: not selected Web Service URLs: http://POIPU:80/ReportServer_SQLEXPRESS Clicked on the web service URL (above), entered my userid (which has administrative permissions) and password, and got the 'permissions are insufficient' error. Started Reporting Services Configuration Manager as administrator. Got same error. Started IE9 64-bit as administrator. Browsed to http://localhost/Report_Server_SQLEXPRESS Got same error. Anyone know of a real solution to this problem? DadCat

Hi DadCat, Thanks for your posting. Based on the current information, the insufficient permission issue when accessing the Web Service URL may be caused by the Internet Explorer security settings. At this time, I suggest that you refer to the following steps: Open IE, click Tools-> Internet Options. Click the "Security" tab, click "Trusted site", and click "Sites".Make sure the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" option is unchecked, and then add http://POIPU to the trusted sites list. Click Close. On the IE "Security" tab, click "Custom level..." Scroll down the scrollbar and locate the "User Authentication" item, make sure either "Automatic logon in Intranet zone" or "Automatic logon with current user name and password" is checked. After it is done, restart the IE as administrator and type the Web Service URL in the address bar to access it again. Hope this helps. Hi DadCat, I have marked my last post as answer. If it doesn't help, please unmark it, and then elaborate the issue for further analysis. Regards, Mike YinMike Yin TechNet Community Support

Hi, log onto the Report Manger in IE as the administrator, go to Site Settings, Security, new role assignment, and add your user 'x'. then go to Folder Settings, and add your user that you wish to have access, and grant them whichever permission they require... hope this helps Stephen
