The future of the SCCM 2012 application catalog and Google Chrome

Hi,

Does anyone know what the future is the SCCM 2012 application catalog and Google Chrome regarding Silverlight? As most of you would be aware by now that Google Chrome V42 and above disables the NPAPI plug-in therefore breaks the application catalog on end user machines if they use the Chrome browser. Now the user can manually enable NPAPI again or it can be done centrally via GPO with a few registry keys. The problem is I read that the NPAPI feature might be removed by September which means access is restricted to IE only.

Is there any plans to migrate to HTML5?

I don't know how the future will look like, but I do known that, even though it works, Chrome was never on the list of supported browsers. For a complete list see: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSoftwareCenter

Doesn't look like they keep that list up to date as IE11 is not listed. Either why it's starting to feel like we are going back in time where we need to tell our users which browser to use to access corporate services. In the modern age users should be able to use whatever browser they list. I know Google is forcing the change but it would be good to get some indication what MS plan to do about.

At this moment Google Chrome is not supported, so it really doesn't change that much.

But Microsoft has also introduced a new Browser with Microsoft Edge, so maybe they do have some changes coming up, but so far nothing has been announced.

Personally I don't think you see a major change in the current release of ConfigMgr (I might be wrong), but maybe in vNext of ConfigMgr.

Well we know for sure that the Application Catalog does not work with Spartan/Edge so it will be interesting to see how this is supported going forward.

The service pack released this week included supported for Window 10 so that is odd but they did include a new company portal I wonder how that fits in.
