The Operations Manager agent processes are using too much processor time
On several Windows Server 2008 R2 servers we are getting the following alert: The Operations Manager agent processes are using too much processor time It occurs only on Windows Server 2008 R2 and not on Windows Server 2003 versions. The latest version of MSXML is integrated in Windows Server 2008 R2 I suppose, and the servers are frequently patches with latest patches using SCCM. Can someone help us solve this issue? Processor time is a factor of the management packs that are actively running workflows on the health servcie agent on those servers. Suggest that you identify the role the server plays, match that against your installed management packs, and zero in on which MP may need tuning. There are several KB's that pertain to the required latest. Assuming you have SCOM R2, and are at the latest update level, look at the required KB's if the management pack hunt doesn't pan out. Use the task manager to see if there are a lot of scripts running - then look at the script names since these often will give you a hint as to which MP needs to be tuned.Microsoft Corporation

Hello, Thanks for your answer, when I look on the server, I see no scripts running. I only see the wmiprvse.exe consuming some memory and cpu. Certifications: MCSA 2003|MCSE 2003|MCTS(4*)| MCTIP:SA

What kind of server is it? I mean, is it running any software other than the OS? If so, is there a management pack in your OM system that is related to that software? Another thought is to look at the settings related to the rule raising that alert. Is it possible that these servers are not installed as English OS? If so, the server OS MP could be mistaking the values of numbers and all you need to do is change some thresholds. Microsoft Corporation

Also getting this on some of our 2008 R2 servers, all English OS', all virtuals on vSphere. Their roles are: Server 1 : SQL 2008 R2 Server 2 : SCCM 2007 + SQL 2005 Server 3 : IIS 7.5 The only related MP's installed are the Windows OS and the SQL MP's, we've not using the SCCM MP yet. We're not seeing this problem on our 2003 or 2008 servers.

This has got to be a bug or unexpected behaviour on Windows 2008 R2. Looking at the Agent Processor Utilization performance graphs on our 2008 R2 servers, it's often peaking up to 40-60%, the graph is all over the place. On our 2003 and 2008 server it rarely goes above 6-10% and is much more a straight line. Similar threads are here and here so there are a number of people out there with this issue.

Just all Windows Server 2008 R2 servers in our domain seem to have this issue, even ones with no special software on it. All of the servers we deploy are English. Certifications: MCSA 2003|MCSE 2003|MCTS(4*)| MCTIP:SA

Again, we recently installed two new Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers, and they are threwing these alerts again. Can someone help us solve this issue? No special management pack, just default. These alerts seem to come for all kinds of server roles within Server 2008 R2. And we you look at the HealthService process it sometimes spikes up to 95% processor utilization. Certifications: MCSA 2003|MCSE 2003|MCTS(4*)| MCTIP:SA

I was hoping that this issue was fixed in CU4, but It doesn't unfortantely, still for 2008 R2 Server these alerts. No special management pack, only some override management packs. Certifications: MCSA 2003|MCSE 2003|MCTS(5*)| MCTIP:SA

Did you install the wmi hotfix for windows 2008 r2? http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/06/09/wmi-leaks-memory-on-server-2008-r2-monitored-agents.aspx Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/
