Hello,

I have same issue with my one of the hyper-v virtual server. Installed windows 2008 webserver R2. I have issue with some time suddenly rdp not respsonding it seems processing but not getting connected. i have checked and following event found..that should be related with that ??

"The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use"
Event id 9003

I usually restart the server and after that able to connect server throug rdp.

Please help me out !!

Thanks for your posting.

Do you use Remote Desktop connection with the /admin switch?

The Remote Administration mode in Windows Server 2008 has been optimized for administration. Features that are intended purely for better user experience such as Themes have been disabled since these are not necessary for the administration of the server.

Thanks for your reply...

I m not using mstsc /admin switch for remote desktop connection... using simple mstsc. but problem facing since last week. it seems configuring remote session...and process going on going on.....

Hi,

Can you confirm that when the issue happens, if we use the same account logon to the server locally, does the issue still persists? And also, to identify if the event relate with the issue, please help reproduce the issue for 3 times and then check the event log if there is the corresponding events generated.

Hi, I have the same problem on server 2008 R2 SP1. We are unable to logon locally even. It display "Local session manager .... Access denied." We have to reboot the server.
